How to tell whether your tripod is "Narrow-legged" or "Wide-legged"
for compatibility with the Taylor Seamount Tripod Shelf

**NOTE: If your tripod legs are sheathed in foam where the shelf would sit, unfortunately your tripod is not compatible with a tripod shelf.
Customers have found these tripods to be incompatible with my shelf system:
  • New Wave u.go (because of foam)
  • SIRUI AM-5C | Lightweight Carbon Fiber Tripod for Traveler
  • Mactrem PT80
  • ULANZI Ombra Ⅱ Camera Travel Tripod, 61.5"
  • Induro CT313
**If you are shopping for a tripod, I recommend the Nikon Compact Outdoor Tripod, which is compatible with with the "narrow-legged" shelf. Buy from B&H or REI. The one available from Amazon is missing the hook at the base of the central stalk.

Method 1: Calipers

Picture
If you can use calipers, they will offer the simplest method. If your tripod has round legs, measure the diameter. If your tripod has flat sides, measure the width of the widest side.
If the measurement is 22mm (0.87 inch) to 26mm (1 inch), choose "Wide-legged".
If the measurement is less than 22 mm (0.87 inch), choose "Narrow-legged".
If you don't have calipers handy, don't worry, choose from one of the methods below.

Method 3: Ruler

Follow the instructions below to use a paper, ruler, and scissors to measure your tripod legs.
1.  Draw a long rectangle at the edge of the paper with the short side measuring precisely 22 mm or 7/8 in.

2. Cut out the rectangle, creating a notch.

3.  Fit a leg of the tripod into the notch. If the leg has flat sides allign the notch with the widest side.

If the leg is narrower than the notch, choose:

"Narrow-legged"

If the leg is wider than the notch or just barely fits, choose:

"Wide-legged"
