Plein air painting at Marion Lake in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness, Oregon. This old tree stood strong and thoughtful looking out over the reflection of clear sky on lake. As I painted, I felt the presence of my grandfather, a forester and wilderness trekker. I could almost feel him close by, setting up camp after a long day of hiking.
